Spent the weekend nearer to dwelling this time, on the World Steampunk Exposition and Maker’s Truthful in Lafayette. I frolicked with the Three Mothers of the Apocalypse, ate nice Cajun meals, learn a narrative to a couple of us, labored on writing another tales, and signed a number of books.
That is the primary time again for the World Steampunk Expo after a six-year hiatus, and attendance was just a little over 200 folks. This bodes effectively for organizers in rising and persevering with the occasion. There was a superb vendor space stuffed with artistic folks hawking artisanally crafted items that fir the steampunk aesthetic.
I did a number of panels, notably “Medication All through the Ages” and “Steam, Gunpowder and Sharp Edges: What Makes a Weapon Steampunk?” My panels’ attendees have been enthusiastic and engaged, and I had the chance to attend quite a lot of different informative panels from passionate and inventive folks.
The cabaret and ball was attended by some superior cosplayers, and we have been handled to music by the New Orleans Steamcog Orchestra. These guys rocked! Better of all, I acquired to hang around with the child all weekend, and KatyBeth positively squee’d on the alternative to hang around at a con and get her geek on.
Ended the weekend chauffeuring a trio of fellow convention distributors dwelling to Mountain Residence, AR after their automobile went kaboom, leaving them stranded in Lafayette. That put me driving 18 hours straight, adopted by a 24-hour ambulance shift.
